This is a solid brass Maltese dolphin doorknocker with strike featuring wonderful detail and a beautiful aged patina in the shape of a dolphin with a Triton tail. The Copper alloy is closer to bronze than most brass in that it appears to have more tin than zinc content and the lovely striations indicative of finer bronze metals. It is an early 20th Century item produced by F. Abela and sons of Malta and is stamped on the underside. A dynamic addition to your front door. It measures 9 ½ inches in length, approximately 2 1/4 inches wide and projects up to 5 inches from the door at the tail. Thew base plate and strike plate are 2 ½ inches in diameter. It weights 4.5 pounds.
